Who we are?

Limmud is an international organization. The first Limmud was held in Great Britain in 1980. Since that time, the Limmud movement has grown to include programs in many countries throughout the world in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australiasa, Israel, United Kingdom, North America and South America. The Limmud International website lists 76 different Limmud programs throughout the world. They are not all the same, but they all subscribe to the values of Limmud.

Limmud AZ is being spearheaded by a dedicated group of volunteers who follow the Limmud Core Values. Lead by Rabbi Elana Kanter, the highly respected founder of the Women’s Jewish Learning Center, Suzanne Swift, former program director at the Valley of the Sun JCC and currently with the Jewish Book Council, and Sandy Adler, a local Realtor and erstwhile Jewish community volunteer, Limmud AZ is growing exponentially as others hear of the potential power of Limmud AZ for our community and commit their time and expertise to creating a valuable experience that will become an annual event.

Our mission is to celebrate Jewish life and learning and diversity by bringing together Jews of all backgrounds and all ages for learning experiences. We are driven by the belief that diversity of perspective, dedication to learning in the broadest sense, and a strong sense of volunteerism are keys to mobilizing and inspiring Jewish individuals and community.
